A Malaysian Sikh pipe band emerged category champion at the World Pipe Band Championship in Scotland.

The amazing feat at Glasglow capped months of diligent training and a single-minded push to display their very best at the pinnacle of competitive pipe band competition.

Sri Dasmesh Pipe Band were named champs of Grade 4B at the Worlds yesterday (17 Aug 2019). The band emerged tops for overall and drumming as well best parade.

This is the second time the Malaysian band took part in the world series organised by the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association.

Up to 8,000 pipers and drummers from 195 bands converged at the Glasgow Green for the last two days (Aug 16-17).

The bands were from 13 countries: New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Austria, Switzerland, Eire, the US, Belgium, England, Spain, Malaysia, Northern Ireland and Scotland.

Sri Dasmesh – named after the tenth Guru of the Sikhs and the only Malaysian pipe band at the event – was formed in 1986 by Sukdev Singh, a commercial pilot and a director of an international school by the same name, with his brother Harvinder Singh.

The world championship winning band was led by pipe major Tirath Singh (22-year old), drum sergeant Tripert Singh (25) and mid-section head Sukhpreet Kaur (22). Tirath Singh and Tripert Singh, who also happen to be brothers, are both pilots with national carrier Malaysia Airlines.

Together, they led the band through 13 months of tireless practice. They met three times a week for two hours or more each session at the Sri Dasmesh International School in Kuala Lumpur.

Tirath said that this was the band’s gift to the country for Merdeka and hope that all Malaysians will hold their heads high in pride because Sri Dasmesh Pipe Band raised the Jalur Gemilang in Scotland and brought home the Silverware.

New Delhi,August 2019 -(Jan Shakti News)- Civil Aviation Minister for India Hardeep Singh Puri MP and Commerce & Industry Minister Som Parkash MP were visited in New Delhi by UK Member of Parliament Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi.  He appraised the ministers about the long-pending demand (from the large NRI diaspora and those within the Punjab) for direct flights between Amritsar and London.  The best way to initiate direct flights would be for the national carrier Air India to demonstrate leadership by initiating this route, before other international airlines too realise that it will be hugely beneficial for them and travellers.

Minister Som Parkash said “I certainly favour more direct flights, as that will boost commerce, trade and tourism within the Punjab and neighbouring states.  We listened intently to the details of the demand and my colleague Mr Puri assured MP Dhesi that he will try to ensure it happens at the earliest possible opportunity.” 

Civil Aviation Minister Puri said he will look into the matter with his officials to see what can be done.  He certainly wanted the “Guru ki nagri” (the Guru’s town) Amritsar to progress and become a stronger gateway for north India and beyond. 

MP Dhesi, whose own Slough constituency (close to Heathrow airport) has a lot of Punjabis residing, thanked both Ministers for their time and added, “Since being elected, I have been taking this legitimate demand of the diaspora community to Indian Ministers, because people (especially the elderly and those with young children) do not want the huge inconvenience of time delays, stopovers and changing aircrafts.  In addition to boosting trade, tourism and cultural ties between both nations, it will no doubt prove lucrative for operators, since Amritsar is visited by millions of worshippers/tourists each year and it is high time there was a direct link between the global centre of London and the spiritual centre of Amritsar.”

Published an open letters to the Prime Minister and the President of India

On 16 August 2019, the Sri Guru Ravidass Sabha UK, Europe and Abroad (SGRSUK)
published an open letters to the Prime Minister (see below) and the President of India calling
on them both to urgently intervene and correct the dark episode of the 10 August 2019
demolition of the sacred Mandir at Tughlakabad, New Delhi. The Sabha called for a new
Mandir to be built on the same site immediately. They also called for a ‘Stay Order’ on the
Delhi Development Authority on any further tampering with the site or any proposed build.
Representatives of the SGRSUK and the Ravidassia community in the UK met Her
Excellency Mrs Ruchi Ghanashyam, High Commissioner of India on 16 August at India
House, London, and handed over the letters. At the meeting the attendees raised with the
High Commissioner the deep pain, sadness, and alarm that under the Government’s watch, a
significant religious heritage site of immense historical, archaeological, and monumental
value had been allowed to be demolished. They stressed Ravidassia followers in India and
around the world looked to Prime Minister Modi and President Kovind for their early
intervention in this grave matter and for a new Mandir to be built on the same site
immediately.

Open letter to the Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi

Dear Honourable Prime Minister Shri Modi Ji
Over the past years you have personally in the highest esteem paid homage to Sat Guru
Ravidass Ji including at his birthplace at Kanshi, Varanasi. It is with deep pain, sadness, and
alarm to our community that now under your Government’s watch, a significant religious
heritage site of historical, archaeological, and of monumental value, the Guru Ravidass
Mandir situated at Ravidass Marg, Tughlakabad, New Delhi, has been allowed to be
demolished. This has been carried out under a Supreme Court (SC) Order made with little
consideration of its impact on the religion, faith and hearts of the followers of Sat Guru
Ravidass Ji, in India, and around the world.
The unjust judgement by the Supreme Court - a bastion on which no Scheduled Caste or
Scheduled Tribe has been elevated in the past years - and the silence of the Central
Government on this outrageous demolition of a religious heritage site is unacceptable and
hurtful to the followers of Sat Guru Ravidass Ji around the world.
We, the Ravidassia Community indigenous to and part of India’s culture and history, have
been subjected to injustices because of Caste for thousands of years. This continues even 72
years after independence in spite of India’s Constitution providing protections including on
religious grounds. The demolishment of our religious site that is personally connected with
our great Sat Guru for over 600 years is yet another example of the atrocities against our
community. We believe the speed with which the Supreme Court sided with those calling for
the demolition is alarming. It has not taken into account the pain and human rights violation
the SC Order on the demolition would have, and has inflicted on our religion and faith. This
is unacceptable to us NRIs and that is why hundreds of thousands have come out on the
streets to protest in India and will continue to do so around the world. The demolition is an
immeasurable loss to the faith of hundreds of millions of Ravidassia Samaj all over India and
around the world.
We call on your urgent intervention to correct the dark episode of the 10 August 2019
demolition and for a new Mandir to be built on the same site immediately. We call on a ‘Stay
Order’ on the Delhi Development Authority on any further tampering with the site or any
proposed build. Sri Guru Ravidass Sabha UK, Europe and Abroad stand ready to support the
re-build, working with our brothers and sisters in India.We would find it helpful if you could

ਚੰਡੀਗੜ੍ਹ, ਅਗਸਤ 2019 (ਇਕਬਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਰਸੂਲਪੁਰ ) ਸੱਚੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਤਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ , ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿੰਨਾ ਮਾਣ ਬਖਸ਼ਦੀ ਹੈ  ਇਹ ਸਭ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਬਖਸਸ ਹੈ ।ਇਸ ਤਰਾਂ ਹੀ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਅੰਦਰ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਜਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਗਲ ਰਹੀ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਬੀਮਾਰੀ ਕੈਂਸਰ ਦੇ ਖਾਤਮੇ ਲਈ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਭਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਰਲਡ ਕੈਂਸਰ ਕੇਅਰ ਦੇ ਝੰਡੇ ਹੇਠ ਵੱਡਾ ਜੇਹਾਦ ਛੇੜ ਰਹੇ ਮੋਗਾ ਦੇ ਨਿੱਕ ਜਿਹੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਬੀੜ ਰਾਊਕੇ ਦੇ ਜੰਮਪਾਲ ਕੁਲਵੰਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਧਾਲੀਵਾਲ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਨਿਭਾਈ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਇਸ ਸੇਵਾ ਬਦਲੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਵੱਲੋਂ 15 ਅਗਸਤ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਜ ਪੁਰਸਕਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਸਨਮਾਨਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਖੇਤਰਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਡਾ ਨਾਮਣਾ ਖੱਟਣ ਵਾਲਿਆ 18 ਸਖਸੀਅਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਵਲੋਂ ਰਾਜ ਪੁਰਸਕਾਰ ਦੇਣ ਦੀ ਜਾਰੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਲਿਸਟ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉਪਰ ਜਿਉਂ ਹੀ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਧਾਲੀਵਾਲ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਸ਼ਰ ਹੋਇਆ ਤਾਂ ਸਭ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਇਸ ਫੈਸਲੇ ਦਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਸਵਾਗਤ ਕੀਤਾ। ਸ ਕੁਲਵੰਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਧਾਲੀਵਾਲ 15 ਅਗਸਤ ਨੂੰ ਜਲੰਧਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਇਹ ਸਨਮਾਣ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹਨ। 

ਲੰਡਨ,  ਅਗਸਤ 2019 (ਗਿਆਨੀ ਰਾਵਿਦਰਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ  )- ਵਿਧਾਇਕ ਹਰਦਿਆਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਕੰਬੋਜ ਦਾ ਯੂ.ਕੇ. ਪਹੁੰਚਣ 'ਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਵਲੋਂ ਭਰਵਾਂ ਸਵਾਗਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ । ਸ: ਕੰਬੋਜ਼ ਦੇ ਸਨਮਾਨ 'ਚ ਉੱਘੇ ਕਾਰੋਬਾਰੀ ਤਜਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੇਖੋਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਕਰਵਾਏ ਗਏ ਸਮਾਗਮ 'ਚ ਸੰਸਦ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਸੀਮਾ ਮਲਹੋਤਰਾ ਅਤੇ ਹੰਸਲੋ ਦੇ ਡਿਪਟੀ ਮੇਅਰ ਰਘਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਿੱਧੂ, ਕੌਸਲਰ ਰਾਜੂ ਸੰਸਾਰਪੁਰੀ ਵਲੋਂ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਸਨਮਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ । ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਸ: ਕੰਬੋਜ ਨੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਨਿਧ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੀ ਧਰਤੀ 'ਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਧਰਮ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਰਸੇ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਵੱਡੇ-ਵੱਡੇ ਕਾਰੋਬਾਰ ਸਥਾਪਿਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ।ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਅੱਜ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਭਰ ਨੂੰ ਲੋਕਤੰਤਰ ਦਾ ਸਬਕ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਰਤਾਨੀਆ ਦੀ ਸਿਆਸਤ 'ਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਬੋਲਬਾਲਾ ਚੰਗੇ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਦਾ ਸੰਕੇਤ ਹੈ । ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਕਾਰੋਬਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝਾਂ ਹੋਰ ਕਾਇਮ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਸੁਨੇਹਾ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੇ 550ਵੇਂ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਦਿਹਾੜੇ ਮੌਕੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਆਉਣ ਦਾ ਸੱਦਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ । ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਜਤਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਗੁਲਾਟੀ, ਰੇਸ਼ਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਡੇਲ, ਬਲਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਗਿੱਲ ਦੀਨੇਵਾਲੀਆ, ਸਰਬਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਵਿਰਕ ਸਲੋਹ, ਗੁਰਮੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਗਰੇਵਾਲ, ਗੁਰਬਚਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਟਵਾਲ, ਜਸਕੀਰਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਦਿਓਲ, ਗੁਰਮਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਥਿੰਦ, ਸਤਨਾਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਔਜਲਾ ਆਦਿ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਸਨ ।
