COOPERATIVE SUGAR MILLS PROVIDE FREE SEED HIGH YIELD VARIETY TO SUGARCANE GROWERS- SUKHJINDER SINGH RANDHAWA

MINISTER LAUNCHES SEED DISTRIBUTION THROUGH VIDEO CONFERENCING FROM SUGAR MILL, BATALA 

Chandigarh, May 2020 -(Iqbal Singh Rasulpur/Manjinder Gill)-

 Punjab Cooperation Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said that the Cooperative Sugar Mills of the state would provide seed of high yield varieties free of cost to the sugarcane growers. 

While launching the distribution of seeds/seedlings of high yield varieties to the sugarcane growers through video conferencing at Batala Cooperative Sugar Mill today, Randhawa said that in order to obviate the economic impact of Covid-19 crisis on agriculture and farmers and to facilitate the sugarcane growers, Punjab Cooperative Sugar Mills had prepared good quality sugarcane seed and provide it to the sugarcane cultivators free of cost and the distribution of these seeds had started today. He said that under seed development program for the area under the jurisdiction of 9 Cooperative Sugar Mills in the state to provide pure seeds to the sugarcane cultivators in the area of Cooperative Sugar Mills.

Sugarfed Chairman Amrik Singh Aliwal said that Sugarcane surveyors of Cooperative Sugar Mills have been directed to resolve the issues of sugarcane growers either online or on mobile phones. 

Meanwhile, the Sugarfed MD Mr. Puneet Goyal said that so far about 1700 quintals of good quality sugarcane seeds had been provided to the farmers from Karnal and Kapurthala.
