Keeping in view the problem being faced by the Employers in filing ESI contribution for the contribution period April 2020 to September 2020 within 42 days, ESIC has relaxed the provisions of The Employees’ State Insurance (General) Regulations, 1950.
Accordingly, one-time opportunity has been given to those Employers who could not file ESI contribution for the contribution period April 2020 to September 2020 within 42 days after the end of the contribution period. The employers are now allowed to file this contribution for the Contribution Period from April 1, 2020 to September 30, 2020, up to January 15, 2021.
Further, it is made clear that this one-time relaxation is limited to the contribution period ending September 2020 only and no further relaxation in limitation for other contribution period is allowed. Such relaxation is not extended to other older or new contribution period.
For employees covered under ESI Act, the employer is liable to pay his own share of contribution @ 3.25% and also deduct employee’s share of 0.75% from the wages and pay total contribution of 4% of wages to the ESIC within 15 days of the last day of the calendar month in which the contributions are due. These rates were revised w.e.f. July 1, 2019.
The ESI Scheme at present is implemented in the entire geographical area of Ludhiana. covering about 17082 factories/establishments providing benefits to 4 lakh Insured Persons. Cash benefit to the insured persons and their dependents is provided through 1 SRO at Urban Estate, Focal Point and 5 Branch Offices at Focal Point, Giaspura, Gill Road, Rahon Road and Kohara. Medical benefit is provided through a 300 bedded ESIC Model Hospital at Bharat Nagar chowk and 13 ESI Dispensaries. Tie-up arrangement for super specialty treatment and investigations has also been made with a number of nursing homes/ hospitals/diagnostic centres of Ludhiana.
