Farmers’ Producers Organizations to be formed in seven blocks- DC Varinder Kumar Sharma

To give boost to collectivization of agri produce through Farmers’ Producer Organizations (FPOs), a district level committee meeting on formation and promotion of FPOs was held today, under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma to monitor and review the progress of FPO in Bachat Bhawan.

In the meeting, DDM NABARD Sanjiv Kumar gave a brief presentation of the Central Sector Scheme of Formation of FPOs and talked about operational guidelines of the scheme.

He told that this committee was formed as per GOI guidelines and Govt. of Punjab, Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. The Primary aim of the Committee is to give impetus to formation and nurturing of FPOs through effective hand holding and monitoring support, he added.

The Deputy Commissioner Varinder Sharma appreciated the efforts being made by partner agencies in this field and said that aggregation of Agri produce can be a better alternative to farmers especially at the time of abundance of produce and farmers have to resort to distress sale.

He told that initially seven blocks of district has been approved to form FPOs under this scheme.
