Delegates of G-20 countries pay obeisance at Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib

G-20 countries should formulate policies based on environment preservation, youth employment & protection of human rights: Harjinder Singh Dhami -Delegates honoured by SGPC

Delegates from different countries who arrived in Sri Amritsar to participate in the G-20 Summit events today visited and paid obeisance at Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib, the spiritual centre of humanity. The delegates were also apprised about the management of langar (food from community) and ongoing sewa (voluntary service) at Langar Sri Guru Ramdas Ji. On their arrival here, G-20 delegates were welcomed by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Harjinder Singh Dhami.

Meanwhile, the delegates got information about Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib and Sikh history at the interpretation centre built in the basement of the plaza at Sri Darbar Sahib. The SGPC organized a special event to honour the G-20 delegates in a hall at plaza, where they were honoured by SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami and SGPC members.

Addressing the delegates here, SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami told the G-20 delegates about the importance, maryada (conduct) and principle of Sri Harmandar Sahib and said that this shrine conveys a message of universal communion, where thousands of pilgrims visit from across the globe pay obeisance every day.

SGPC President told the delegates from different countries under India's G-20 presidency that Sri Amritsar is a historical city established by Sri Guru Ramdas Ji, the fourth Sikh Guru (master), where the Guru settled people of different trades and regions. He said that India's diversity is its specialty, which the delegates are experiencing during their visit.

Harjinder Singh Dhami told the delegates on behalf of SGPC that the G-20 countries should formulate and adopt their policies with a holistic approach. He especially stressed on the issue of environment preservation and climate change.

“Especially on the issue of environment and climate change, strict decisions and such policies should be devised so that we provide a clean and green planet for our future generations. The Sikh Gurus have also taught to preserve the environment in their Gurbani (holy verses)”, said Harjinder Singh Dhami.

“Policies should ensure that mass migration of the young generation to other countries does not take place and youth are given respectable opportunities and employment as per their skills in their home countries. We further demand from the G20 delegates to look into the matters of human rights and include this issue in coming G20 summits”, added Harjinder Singh Dhami. He thanked the G-20 delegates for reaching the holy land of Sri Amritsar.

It is worth mentioning that the delegates of different countries Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Korea, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, Britain, Bangladesh, America, European Union, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Oman, Singapore, Mauritius, Egypt, and OECD, UNESCO, UNICEF visited here.
