21 Finalists Named for 2026 Australian Sikh Awards for Excellence

DIASPORA & GLOBAL · SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA

Sikh Youth Australia is hosting the 2026 Australian Sikh Awards for Excellence today, August 29, at the Shangri-La Sydney, honouring 21 finalists chosen from more than 100 nominations submitted from across every Australian state and territory. Categories include Excellence in Agriculture, Arts, Culture or Music, Community Service, a Professional Field, and Sports, alongside Australian Sikh Woman of the Year and Young Australian Sikh of the Year.

Established in 2023, the awards are run by Sikh Youth Australia, a volunteer-led charitable organisation founded in 1999 that has reached over 100,000 people through community initiatives over 26 years. Finalists are selected on the basis of seva, or selfless service, and their contribution to Australia's social and economic life. More than 300 guests, including federal and state ministers, are expected to attend.

For the diaspora, and for families back in Punjab — including many with ties to villages around Jagraon and Ludhiana district — recognitions like this abroad are a reminder that the seva carried out of Punjab continues to shape public life on the other side of the world, one community project and one honoured name at a time.
