GLADA demolishes five unauthorised colonies today

GLADA Chief Administrator, Sagar Setia, IAS had adopted zero tolerance to unauthorised and unplanned development with a special focus on illegal colonies. He said a special drive has also been launched to take punitive action against those who were fleecing innocent residents under the garb of offering cheaper plots in these unauthorised colonies, which lacked statutory sanction and compliance with the government norms.

In complaince to the orders issued by Additional Chief Administrator, GLADA- cum-Competent Authority Amarjit Singh Bains, PCS; GLADA Team led by District Town Planner (Regulatory) Mukesh Chadha along with Duty Magistrate Simrat Kaur, BDPO-2, Ludhiana and enforcement team of GLADA comprising of SDEs, ATP and JEs demolished five illegal colonies today by dismantling their roads, passages and other illegal constructions and structures on these sites recently. Of these five unauthorised colonies, two of them were situated in Village Bholapur and one each was situated in Village Tajpur, Village Bhamian Kalan and Village Kulianwal respectively. When developers did not stop the illegal construction work despite serving them with the notices, a special team carried out the demolition drive. The demolition was held with the co-operation of Police Officials, Officials of PSPCL and revenue department respectively. In a move to check mushrooming of illegal colonies at the very initial stage GLADA is planning more such drives in upcoming weeks.

The Chief Administrator, GLADA, appealed to general public not to purchase property/plots/buildings in unauthorised colonies as GLADA will not provide any facility like water supply, sewerage, electricity connections, street lights etc. The list of approved & regularized colonies along with their sanctioned maps is available on the Official Website of GLADA, which may be checked by the prospective buyers before buying any property.

GLADA Additional Chief Administrator said besides undertaking a demolition campaign, GLADA had also recommended that to the concerned Tehsildars for not registring Plots in these unauthorised Colonies, PSPCL for not issuing electricity connections to these unauthorised colonies besides filing FIRs against the developers of unauthorised colonies in Ludhiana district.
