Says SGPC committed to every possible support to Afghan Sikhs

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate S. Harjinder Singh reached New Delhi on Monday and expressed his condolences to the family members of Bhai Sawinder Singh, who was martyred in the terror attack on Gurdwara Karte Parwan near Kabul in Afghanistan.
S. Harjinder Singh attended the antim ardas (last prayers) of Bhai Sawinder Singh at Gurdwara Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji in Tilak Nagar, New Delhi and termed the terror attack on Kabul Gurdwara as a cruel act against humanity.
SGPC President met Bhai Sawinder Singh’s wife Pal Kaur, his son who arrived from the United Kingdom S. Ajmeet Singh and other family members and while expressing his condolences, he assured to provide every possible support from SGPC.
S. Harjinder Singh said, “SGPC is with the Afghan Sikhs and will always remain committed to provide every possible support in the time of need. The government must take timely steps to ensure the safety of Sikhs and Indians living across the globe and so that the pain of such unfortunate incidents does not have to be tolerated.”
SGPC President said that although it was the duty of the governments to settle the Sikhs stuck in Afghanistan after bringing them to India, the SGPC will always remain present for fulfilling the needs required in this process. He appealed to the Government of India to bring all the Afghan Sikhs to India and make concrete arrangements for their welfare and special attention for their employment.
Meanwhile, on behalf of SGPC, Advocate S. Harjinder Singh bestowed S. Ajmeet Singh, son of Shaheed Bhai Sawinder Singh with the Guru’s blessing Siropoa (robe of honour) and a dastar (turban).
Apart from meeting the family members of Bhai Sawinder Singh, SGPC President also met Afghan Sikh leaders living in Delhi and discussed the number of Sikhs still living in Afghanistan and ascertained the current situation there.
SGPC President S. Harjinder Singh also met Afghanistan’s Ambassador to India Mr. Farid Mamundzay, who was also present on this occasion and asked him to ensure the safety of Sikhs in Afghanistan.
