The Ludhiana residents created a record of sorts when 26,483 people got vaccinated for Covid19 vaccine in the district today. To ensure that maximum number of Ludhiana residents are vaccinated, the District Administration had started “Vaccination at your doorstep” initiative, under which camps were organised in Mohallas, clubs, factories, business/commercial establishments etc since March 26, 2021.
Punjab Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu congratulated Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma and his entire team for the grand success of this 2-day mega event. It is pertinent to mention that starting today, District Administration Ludhiana is organising a special 2-day drive, under which several camps were being set up in almost every prominent part of the district.
Amid the sharp uptick in the Covid-19 cases in Ludhiana, the district administration on March 26, 2021, had launched a unique initiative ‘Vaccine at Doorsteps’ to inoculate a larger population in a short period to break the transmission chain of virus. This initiative was a brainchild of MC Councillor Mamta Ashu, who had organised first such camp in Partap Nagar area of the city.
Bharat Bhushan Ashu said that the second wave of Coronavirus is more intense and infectious so it becomes more significant to provide the shield to the maximum population by vaccinating them. He said under the ‘Vaccine at Doorsteps’ initiative, there is no need to go and stand in the queue at the vaccination centre as now health teams will visit particular area/factory/village/residential society or private establishments for which the need is just to dial up administration for vaccination camp in their localities or premises.
Mamta Ashu specially thanked the District Administration for owning up her idea for start of this special initiative, which turned into a 2-day mega event (April 3-4, 2021). She said that for the last many days, her team was busy in motivating people to organise camps in their respective areas so that maximum people could be covered. She said that initially, they had thought that around 20,000 people would be vaccinated on a single day today, but it is great that 26,483 people got vaccinated in district Ludhiana today. “I hope this number would increase further tomorrow,” she said while urging people to come forward and get vaccinated tomorrow as well.
Deputy Commissioner disclosed that the administration will send the health teams to vaccinating all eligible at all places from where it would receive the call.
Urging the people to shun hesitance and embrace the vaccine, Sharma stressed that our scientists have left no stone unturned to develop the vaccine and accepting it social responsibility towards the nation, we should get the vaccine at the earliest to save the precious lives from the pandemic.
He said when there was no vaccine, people were drying in large numbers and praying for vaccine and now the vaccine is here, the people must come forward to get a jab to win the war against the pandemic. He said that such camps would continue in coming days as well.
