Punjab Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Minister Mr Bharat Bhushan Ashu today assured the residents that soon, Ludhiana would become a garbage free city. He said that for better and effective management of solid waste, static compactors are being installed at 40 different points of the city.

Mr Ashu said this while interacting with the area residents after inaugurating a static compactor near Jyoti Kendra on Hambran Road, here. This static compactor has been installed for better management of solid waste in the area.

He was also accompanied by Mayor Mr Balkar Singh Sandhu, Ludhiana Improvement Trust Chairman Mr Raman Balasubramaniam, MC Councillors Mrs Rashi Aggarwal, Mr Sunny Bhalla and Mr Maharaj Singh Raji, Mr Hem Raj Aggarwal, besides several others.

While speaking on the occasion, Mr Ashu said that he is committed to making Ludhiana garbage free and urged the residents to assist the Civic body for this social cause. He said that for better and effective management of solid waste, a total of 40 static compactors are being installed in different parts of the city. He said that at these static compactors, the solid waste is first segregated into wet and dry waste and then compressed five times so that it can be managed and transported in an effective manner.

Later, Mr Bharat Bhushan Ashu inaugurated the work for start of laying of interlocking tiles in “Aaray wali” street in ward number 81 of Haibowal area. This work is being carried out with a cost of around Rs 48 lakh.
